About the Vicars of West Malling

The Parish Church of St Mary-the-Virgin, West Malling has served our community for nearly 1,000 years. While we don’t know the names of the Priests who served here before 1339, we are nevertheless able to give a complete record of Vicars for the last seven hundred years.

The list below was compiled first by the Rev C.H. Fielding who was Chaplain to the Malling Union Workhouse in the late 1800’s and wrote a book called Malling Memories. That list was subsequently reproduced in Arthur Lawson’s History of the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, West Malling which was published in 1904.

We have been able to supplement the list by our more contemporary knowledge of the 20th and 21st centuries.
